Other Opportunities

Here at KEEP whilst most of our oppertunities come in the form of placements at hosting collections, occasionally some special situations occur that allow us to offer something not quite in our usual setting. Here you can find these oppertunities and learn more about what they have to offer you and also apply for them.

Browse Operation, London Zoo.
This placement offers the chance to shadow London Zoo’s Browse Management Officer and see up close how browse is sourced and delivered to the zoo’s animals and learn about
what species-specific considerations and mitigations are in place, as well as getting an insight into the planning and record keeping of the whole operation.
Due to health & safety policies, you will not be using any tools but will get to assist with the manual labour and preparing of the browse for deliveries. There will of course also be the
opportunity to ask questions on all things browse.

What the day will look like:
ï‚· Meet the Browse Management Officer at 7am for a quick induction
ï‚· Deliver browse already prepared to respective animal sections and areas
ï‚· Head out to the woods to harvest and prepare browse for the next day
ï‚· Back at base, organise the harvested browse and clean storage containers if needed
ï‚· Record keeping
ï‚· Equipment maintenance (if interested)
ï‚· End of day

Please note that due to the nature of the work, the day may last more than 7.5 hours if things don’t go to plan, equipment fails, or traffic congestions. The placement can be from one to three days, depending on your preference. Please advise
in your application. You should bring suitable clothes for the work and according to the weather, and a pack
lunch, snacks and drinks as most of the day will be spent off site. This placement is suitable for keepers (and horticulturists) who wants to get hands on with browse provision, learn more about the planning and organisation behind it, and learn more
about browse provision in general from one of UK’s leading browse experts.Must be a keeper or horticulturist, and covered by their employer’s insurance

Week commencing 23rd September 2025; deadline 2nd September 2025
